Problem 2 with the cult view: why are questions forbidden if the issue is screaming?

5 Views on “Women Keep Silent" (1 Cor 14_35-36): Women in Ministry part 11 02:04:03 – 02:05:35

Mike identifies the disconnect between ecstatic behavior and the passage's content about questions.

If women were being forbidden from screaming, babbling, or ecstatic behavior, why does verse 35 address asking questions? Questions are not tongues, not screaming, not drunkenness, not ecstatic behavior. The passage says nothing about frenzy or shouting. Some try to argue that 'speak' (laleo) implies tongues here, but Paul uses laleo generically throughout these passages; only context determines when it refers to tongues, and the immediate context is prophecy, not tongues.
