S.M. Baugh's research on women in Ephesus

ALL The Debates Over 1 Tim 2_11-15: Women in Ministry part 12 (it took me a year to make this) 03:00:00 – 03:15:00

Mike presents Baugh's historical work demonstrating that Ephesus was not a feminist city.

S.M. Baugh conducted extensive research into inscriptions and documents from Ephesus and concluded: (1) Ephesus was governed like any other Greco-Roman city — by wealthy males; (2) The Artemis cult had male priests in the highest positions; (3) Women who held honors related to the cult did so because of their wealth and family status, not because the cult promoted female authority; (4) Ephesus was not more favorable to women than other cities in Asia Minor; (5) The idea that Artemis worship created a feminist culture that Paul was responding to has no historical support from the actual inscriptional evidence from Ephesus.
