Conclusion on Artemis cult argument: it fails as an explanation for 1 Tim 2

ALL The Debates Over 1 Tim 2_11-15: Women in Ministry part 12 (it took me a year to make this) 03:25:00 – 03:34:50

Mike summarizes why the Artemis cult hypothesis does not explain Paul's restrictions.

Mike concludes: (1) The Artemis cult argument relies on exaggerated or fabricated claims about Ephesian society; (2) Paul never mentions Artemis, pagan worship, or any cult in 1 Timothy 2; (3) Paul grounds his argument in Genesis, not in Ephesian culture; (4) If Paul were correcting a cult influence, he would have said so explicitly as he does elsewhere; (5) Even if the Artemis cult were exactly as described by egalitarians, it would not explain why Paul appeals to creation order as his reasoning; (6) The argument has the effect of making the passage say nothing universally — which is convenient for egalitarians but unsupported by the text.
