Joseph Smith raised approximately $2,400 (equivalent to around $70,000–$80,000 in modern currency) to purchase the four mummies and two scrolls. He then claimed that one of the papyrus documents was not merely from the time of Abraham but was actually written by the hand of Abraham himself. Mike reads from Smith's diary, dated Sunday, July 5th, where Smith says he 'commenced the translation of some of the characters or hieroglyphics' and found it to reveal 'the writings of Joseph of Egypt' with a 'more full account.'
