Romans 4:4-5 — wages vs. gift; faith counted as righteousness to the one who does not work but believes

The Debate Over James 2: Catholic or Protestant View 00:45:09 – 00:45:40

Additional Pauline argument against Catholic soteriology

Romans 4:4-5: 'To the one who works, wages are not counted as a gift but as his due. To the one who does not work but believes in him who justifies the ungodly, his faith is counted as righteousness.' Paul's argument: if salvation involves works, it is earned (wages), not grace (gift). The ungodly person who merely believes is justified — no works required.
