Canon-based objection to using 2 Maccabees as proof of purgatory
2 Maccabees is not accepted by Jews as canonical. Jesus never quoted it or affirmed it. Paul did not use it. The fact that the strongest proof-text for purgatory lies outside the 66 books is itself telling. Mike references his 'Evidence for the Bible' series for more detail on how the OT canon was established.
