Linda Belleville's claim: no lack of women leaders in the early church
Mike introduces egalitarian scholar Linda Belleville's claims about women leaders.
Belleville claims there was 'no lack of women leaders in the early church.' She argues male leaders may have been more numerous but virtually every leadership role that names a man also names a woman, and that there are more women named as leaders in the NT than men. She identifies Phoebe as deacon and benefactor (Romans 16:1-2), Mary, Lydia, and Nympha as overseers of house churches, and Euodia and Syntyche as among the overseers and deacons at Philippi.
