Two errors bracket this topic: claiming all sin is the same (minimizes serious sin) and believing some sins are so minor they are barely wicked at all (hardens the conscience).
Mike summarizes the two ditches on either side of the correct biblical position.
Error one: all sin is identical — this always leads to minimizing serious sin. Error two: recognizing that sins differ in severity but then concluding that certain sins (white lies, minor infractions) are cute or innocent levels of wickedness — this hardens the conscience. The biblical position holds both: all sin is genuinely wicked before God, and some sins are significantly worse than others.
