Two reasons answering the homosexuality question feels hard: consequences and confusion
Winger identifies the two root causes that make Christians hesitate to state a biblical position on homosexuality.
Consequences: answering truthfully can cost careers, friendships, and family relationships. Winger shares that some of his own relatives have cut him off over this issue. He cites Jesus' warning that believers will be hated for his name's sake (Matt. 10) and Paul's call not to hold our lives dear. Confusion: people consistently mishear 'homosexuality is a sin' as 'I hate gay people.' Winger distinguishes between condemning the sexual behavior and condemning the person, using analogies to alcoholism and parental love.
