The real offense of the gospel is not Jesus' love but Jesus' holiness — and that is what must be proclaimed

Winger argues that it is easy to be a light when you only preach God's love. The challenge comes when you preach God's holiness and call sin what it is. Jesus sat and ate with sinners — but to call them to repentance, not to affirm their sin. That is the full gospel. Christians cannot selectively promote only the palatable parts of Christ's message. The stumbling blocks to coming to Christ must be named and confronted, not smoothed over.
