Symbolism is assigned by the person, not inherent to the object — trees have no intrinsic spiritual meaning

Trees don't arrive with spiritual meaning already attached. Whatever symbolism a Christmas tree has is what the family or person assigns to it. You can make it a symbol of the light of the gospel, the gift of Christ coming to earth, life and evergreen resilience — or it can simply be a decoration you enjoy. The claim that a decorated tree inherently represents pagan fertility worship or idol veneration ignores that objects don't carry inherent spiritual meaning; people assign meaning to them.
