Epistles are not biographies — they don't need to quote Jesus extensively
Before diving into scripture, Mike explains why Paul's letters don't contain extensive biography of Jesus and why that doesn't undermine their historical value.
Epistles are letters addressing specific issues in local churches, not biographies. Paul doesn't quote Jesus extensively because his recipients already knew the traditions about Jesus. We shouldn't expect the same density of Jesus-material as in the Gospels. Mike emphasizes this is not an ad hoc defense — it's based on the nature of the genre.
