Vatican II on the unevangelized: saved if they 'sincerely seek God' and follow their conscience
Continuing the Lumen Gentium 16 reading
Vatican II says those who through no fault of their own do not know the gospel can attain salvation if they 'sincerely seek God and moved by grace strive by their deeds to do his will as it is known to them through the dictates of conscience.' Mike notes 'sincerity' is presented as a key criterion. He critiques this: sincerity is not the biblical key because people can be sincerely deceived — that is the nature of deception.
