Q&A: Were Jews chosen as an ethnic or religious group? — ethnic bloodline with a missional purpose
Answering viewer question from T. Kua
God chose the Jewish people based on an ethnic bloodline — a promise to Abraham — but the purpose was missional: to bless the whole world (Genesis 12:3). One could convert to Judaism religiously but that does not make one ethnically Jewish. The election of Israel was not based on their superiority but on God's sovereign grace and his plan to bring Messiah through that line.
