The word apostolos has a range of meanings in Greek
Mike explains the semantic range of 'apostle' as groundwork for the next argument.
The Greek word apostolos does not inherently mean 'the special leaders Jesus appointed.' It was used broadly for any messenger or sent one. If someone sent a messenger, that person was their apostolos. The word has a variety of meanings in the NT — from the Twelve, to Paul, to general missionaries, to simple messengers with no special authority.
