Craig Blomberg's soft complementarian view: missionaries with temporary authority
Mike presents Blomberg's nuanced position from Two Views on Women in Ministry.
Blomberg (soft complementarian) chastises egalitarians for jumping prematurely from 'Junia was an apostle' to 'women can hold all leadership roles.' He argues that in contemporary terms these would be missionaries or church planters — an authoritative role including teaching doctrine to men and women, but not an office of local ongoing church administration. Missionaries appoint elders and work themselves out of a job. Blomberg grants temporary teaching authority to women in missionary contexts but not the permanent office of elder.
