Women as named eyewitness sources at the death, burial, and empty tomb of Jesus

The Gospels Are History Not Myth 00:41:30 – 00:42:31

The Gospel pattern of naming women at the passion events as eyewitness sourcing.

The Gospels consistently name specific women (multiple Marys, etc.) at three key events: the death of Jesus, the burial of Jesus, and the empty tomb. Mike argues these are events where the male disciples were absent or fleeing — the Gospel writers name the women because they were the actual eyewitness sources for these portions of the narrative. Bauckham: "It could hardly be clearer that the Gospels are appealing to the women's role as eyewitnesses."
