Reading the lexical definition from Bible software.

The lexical definition: "to change one's way of life as a result of a complete change of thought and attitude with regard to sin and righteousness." The emphasis is on change/transition, not grief. Grief (as in 2 Corinthians 7) leads to repentance; it is not repentance itself. The wrong kind of grief leads to despair and continued sin.
