Seth Andrews (The Thinking Atheist) defines faith as "wish thinking" and surrender to unreality
Examining a prominent atheist's definition of faith
Seth Andrews defined faith as "a surrender to wish thinking when we are unable or unwilling to root ourselves in the complex and often hard realities of a natural world... faith prompts us to declare that we know what we do not know." Mike calls this a straw man, noting no dictionary defines faith this way, and argues that when Christians who hold this definition are shown it does not represent their own faith, something has gone wrong in communication.
