Gen Z defined: the first digitally native generation, and the generation with significantly increased loneliness, depression, and suicidality
McDowell lays out two of the most defining characteristics of Gen Z
Gen Z spans from approximately elementary school through early 20s. They are sometimes called the trans generation, post-Millennials, or iGen, but Gen Z has stuck. Two most poignant factors: (1) Gen Z is the first digitally native generation — many were swiping smartphones and tablets before they could read or talk. Their entire worldview is shaped by this. Millennials were digital immigrants; Gen Z are digital natives. (2) Significant increase in loneliness, depression, and suicidality — seen both in society as a whole and among young people specifically.
