Strategy for LGBTQ conversations with non-Christians: start with listening, ask about their story, do not lead with the biblical sexual ethic

The State of Youth Today and How to Disciple Them (Dr. Sean McDowell) 00:33:00 – 00:35:32

McDowell describes how he approaches LGBTQ questions with non-Christians

With a non-Christian asking about LGBTQ topics, McDowell leads with extensive listening and questions: Tell me your story. When did you first have this realization? How did people treat you? What are helpful/unhelpful things people say? How did coming out change relationships with parents, friends, your view of God? He argues that with a non-Christian he would not make a case for the biblical view of sexuality first — he would first talk about Jesus: who cared more for the marginalized than Jesus? Who was more opposed to hypocrites? If the person comes to see Jesus as good and God, the ethic follows.
