Millennial and Gen Z church return: life-stage markers like marriage and children are happening later or not at all, making the expected return uncertain

The State of Youth Today and How to Disciple Them (Dr. Sean McDowell) 00:50:04 – 00:52:07

McDowell addresses the question of whether lapsed young people will return

Previous generations dropped off in young adulthood and returned when they got jobs, owned homes, got married, had kids. For Millennials and Gen Z, these life-stage markers are happening later (and in some cases, like getting married and having kids, sometimes not at all). Whether this generation will return to church remains to be seen. Surprising research: LGBTQ-identifying people were significantly more likely to attend a Bible-preaching, non-affirming church than an affirming church — because at a non-affirming church they are more likely to hear the Bible and the gospel.
