The Kalam Cosmological Argument leads from two premises to the conclusion that the universe has a cause with properties matching classical theism; William Lane Craig has defended it extensively

Mike Winger LIVE Q&A on Theology, Apologetics and the Christian Life 00:14:52 – 00:18:25

Response to question about atheist objections to the Kalam

Winger explains the Kalam: (1) Whatever begins to exist has a cause; (2) The universe began to exist; therefore (3) the universe has a cause. Premise 1 is supported by common sense (things do not pop into existence uncaused). Premise 2 is supported by both philosophical arguments against a past-eternal universe and scientific discoveries including the Big Bang. The cause must be timeless, spaceless, immaterial, and incredibly powerful, matching classical theism. Craig also argues for a personal cause. Winger refers to Craig's book Reasonable Faith and notes it addresses oscillating universe and bubble universe models.
