1 Corinthians 10:13 refutes the idea that any temptation including suicidal impulse is unavoidably overpowering; God always provides a way of escape; the sense of enslavement is often a lie believed about oneself

Mike Winger LIVE Q&A on Theology, Apologetics and the Christian Life 00:55:18 – 00:56:52

Response to question about Christianity and suicide and whether God ever gives more than one can bear

Winger reads 1 Corinthians 10:13: no temptation has overtaken you except what is common to man; God is faithful and will provide the way of escape. The key point: God enables believers to go through any situation without sinning. This does not mean sinless perfection but that we always have the capacity to resist. He identifies the lie: 'I have no choice but to sin / I have no control.' This lie keeps people enslaved. The battle against sin is often a battle over what you believe about yourself while being tempted.
