The Angel of the Lord as the messianic figure — Malachi 3 and Judges 2

A Bunch Of Reasons Christianity Is True: special guest Jonathan McLatchie 00:38:35 – 00:40:36

McLatchie connects the Angel of the Lord to the "messenger of the covenant" in Malachi 3, establishing the Angel of the Lord as a messianic figure.

Malachi 3:1 says "the messenger of the covenant" will suddenly come to his temple. In Judges 2:1, the angel (malak) of Yahweh identifies himself as the one who brought Israel out of Egypt and made the covenant — i.e., the messenger of the covenant. Therefore, the Angel of the Lord = the messenger of the covenant = the messianic figure of Malachi 3. This threads a line through multiple books (Judges, Malachi, Zechariah 3, Isaiah 63, Exodus 23) pointing to the same pre-incarnate messianic figure who is Yahweh.
