Romans 7:8 — sin uses the commandment as an opportunity; apart from the law sin is dead

Romans 7:8 says "sin, seizing opportunity through the commandment, produced in me all kinds of covetousness. For apart from the law, sin lies dead." Winger uses this to show that the power of sin relies on the law — so not being under the law and not being under the dominion of sin are connected ideas.
