Jeremiah 2:13: Two evils — forsaking the fountain of living waters and digging broken cisterns

Steven Anderson vs The Biblical Gospel 00:31:08 – 00:33:10

The nature of all sin: turning from God toward inadequate substitutes

God says his people committed two evils: (1) forsaking him, the fountain of living waters; (2) digging cisterns for themselves — broken cisterns that hold no water. All sin is fundamentally turning away from God's goodness and trying to fill the void with something else (sin as broken cistern). The alternative to God always promises more than it delivers — the more you pour in, the more empty you become.
