The Hebrew word ra (transliterated as ra or raa) has at least 12 possible meanings per the Dictionary of Biblical Languages with Semantic Domains, including: bad, fierce, sad, troubled, that which can harm or injure, distress, misery, injury, calamity. Brown Driver Briggs (p. 948) lists: evil, distress, misery, injury, calamity. The Lexham Analytical Lexicon identifies the usage in Isaiah 45:7 specifically as "calamity: an event resulting in great loss and misfortune."
