The primary and greatest basis for Christian confidence is the internal witness of the Holy Spirit. Winger cites Romans 8 (the Spirit bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God). This witness entails a cluster of beliefs: God exists, Christ reconciled me to God, my sins are forgiven, I have a relationship with God through Christ.
