NT case study showing apostles using evidential showing to establish what they already knew
Paul in 1 Corinthians 15:3-8 lists resurrection appearances to Cephas, the Twelve, 500 brethren at once (most still alive), James, all the apostles, and Paul. Peter and Paul did not need these witnesses to believe — they saw it themselves. But Paul lists them to make a case for others. Wolfhart Pannenberg notes Paul follows the customary Greek historical method (as Herodotus) of proving events by listing witnesses. C.H. Dodd: Paul mentions the 500 still being alive because he means 'the witnesses are there to be questioned.'
