No one overcomes unbelief "on their own" — God uses general revelation, conscience, and the Holy Spirit to call everyone

20 Questions with Pastor Mike (Episode 1) 00:07:45 – 00:08:16

Continuing the conditional election question — answering the specific sub-question of why a sinner must overcome unbelief "on their own."

Mike argues that even in a non-Calvinist framework, no one overcomes unbelief alone. Creation declares God's glory (general revelation), conscience tells us we are sinners in need of a savior (Romans 1), and the Holy Spirit calls us through the gospel. None of these are human efforts — they are all God's initiative. So even those who respond to the gospel are not acting independently.
