Unbiblical divorce followed by the ex-spouse's remarriage: the innocent party is free to remarry, but must do heart work first

20 Questions with Pastor Mike (Episode 1) 00:46:33 – 00:47:33

Question from Carmen about whether someone who initiated an unbiblical divorce is free to remarry after the ex-spouse has already remarried (making reconciliation impossible).

Mike's short answer: technically yes, they are free to remarry. But the essential prior work is: (1) Coming to genuine terms with where they personally failed (not focusing on the other party's failures); (2) Arriving at genuine forgiveness of the former spouse; (3) Being in a place of godly readiness to enter a new marriage with a changed attitude. Without this inner work, remarriage risks repeating the same patterns that caused the first divorce. Mike references his teaching series for husbands and wives drawn from Scripture.
