Strategy for confronting prosperity gospel error in friends and family: affirm first, then use bridge-building resources they cannot interrupt
Response to Robert Butcher asking how to lovingly reveal errors of the prosperity gospel to friends and family.
Mike recommends: (1) Start by affirming what is genuinely good in their views (faith, trust, confidence in God). (2) Rather than live conversation — which invites interruption and can become unproductive back-and-forth — send written resources or videos that deal graciously with the specific false teachings. A video or letter cannot be interrupted, allowing the full argument to land. Mike cites his own Bill Johnson video as a model: started by affirming good things, then built a bridge to the problematic teaching.
