Angels and free will — Mike's view that angels had a one-time choice that became fixed

20 Questions with Pastor Mike (Episode 8) Fixed and Reuploaded 00:32:03 – 00:33:35

Q from Brent Smith about what separates humans from angels and whether angels can fall.

Mike believes angels have free will and had the ability to choose to rebel or be loyal to God. Key differences from humans: humans are made in the image of God, angels are not; humans are indwelt by the Holy Spirit in a way connected to bearing the image of God; humans are born fallen whereas angels were initially created holy and then chose to fall. Mike suggests that once angels made their choice (to remain loyal or to rebel), that choice became effectively locked in — they are no longer in a state of ongoing deliberation. He supports this with the analogy that a person who chooses to steal when young is more likely to steal later; the choice shapes the person.
