Matthew 8 two demoniacs vs. Mark 5 one demoniac: narrative selectivity, not contradiction
Question from CM (from Germany) about the apparent discrepancy between Matthew 8 and Mark 5.
Mark 5 describes one demon-possessed man; Matthew 8 mentions two. Mike's resolution: if there are two, Mark is focused on the one who had the most dramatic encounter and who went out to tell the town about Jesus. Matthew, also inspired by the Holy Spirit, chose to mention both for his own reasons. Analogy: telling a story about going to a movie with one's wife, then later mentioning the whole group — not a contradiction, just different narrative focus. The Bible gives inspired summaries, not exhaustive accounts.
