1 Corinthians 6 provides key principles for evaluating bodily health choices: lawfulness, helpfulness, and avoiding bondage

20 Questions with Pastor Mike (Episode 11) 00:23:30 – 00:27:35

Responding to a question from Grayson Fuller about biblical principles for physical health, smoking, piercings, diet, and exercise

1 Corinthians 6 offers two guiding principles: (1) All things are lawful but not all things are helpful -- evaluate whether an action benefits you. (2) I will not be brought under the power of any -- avoid bondage and obsession. Mike applies these to recreational marijuana (prohibited because it violates sobriety), occasional tobacco pipe (permissible if not addictive), alcohol (permissible in moderation). He critiques both the abstain-everything camp and the liberty-everything camp.
