The book of Judges follows a downward trajectory of increasingly flawed deliverers (Gideon → Jephthah → Samson) to show Israel's depravity and create expectation for the true Deliverer - Jesus.

20 Questions with Pastor Mike (Episode 14) 00:41:22 – 00:43:29

Theological purpose of the book of Judges

Judges presents a downward spiral: each judge rises but ultimately fails shamefully, including even the best ones. The pattern reflects universal human depravity - the law alone cannot make people right with God. The insufficient judges picture Christ by contrast, deepening the need for the final Deliverer who will not fail.
