Q5: Do Christians sin every second? Distinguishing temptation from sin

20 Questions with Pastor Mike (Episode 16) 00:23:36 – 00:25:08

Response to question about frequency of sin in the Christian life

Mike argues that Christians are not sinning every moment. He draws a critical distinction: temptation is not sin. Conflating temptation with sin leads to depression and prevents recognizing victories. James 1 is cited: a person is tempted when drawn away by their own desires — sin occurs when desire conceives with the will, moving to either fantasizing about or acting on the sinful desire.

Eph 5:22 and Mutual Submission

The mutual and reciprocal nature of hypotasso in Eph 5:21 makes a hierarchical reading of v22 semantically incoherent. Paul cannot establish one-to-another voluntary submission and then immediately mean one-directional hierarchy without breaking the logic of his own passage.
