Why care about false doctrine (prosperity gospel, word of faith)? Because doctrinal error has real-world spiritual consequences
Question from Tony about why false doctrine matters if it does not compromise salvation.
Mike gives two arguments: (1) Practical: false prophecy in 2020 led some people to question the reliability of God and verge on apostasy -- correction by discerning teachers prevented worse harm; (2) Biblical: the New Testament epistles are full of non-gospel issues (leadership qualifications, care for widows, community ethics) -- the apostles cared about far more than just the bare gospel. Reducing Christianity to only 'gospel' issues is reductio ad absurdum. Jesus's critiques of the Pharisees extend well beyond soteriology.
