Fate of the devil: destruction, lake of fire, and whether Satan is annihilated
New Testament Theologist cited Romans 16:20, Hebrews 2:14, and 1 Corinthians 15:24-28 to ask about the ultimate fate of Satan.
Mike notes that "crush" (Romans 16:20) is ambiguous — it could mean destroying Satan's power, ending his influence, or annihilating him; other passages are needed to decide. Hebrews 2:14 says Christ destroys "the one who has the power of death," which is consistent with either annihilation or total defeat. 1 Corinthians 15:24-28 describes all enemies being put under Christ's feet. Mike's own view is shaped by Revelation: Satan is cast into the lake of fire before the Millennium, let out briefly after 1,000 years and still active, then cast in again. The fact that Satan is still "alive" (or at least existing) after 1,000 years in the lake of fire makes Mike doubt that the lake of fire constitutes annihilation. He is pre-millennial.
