Another Jesus (2 Corinthians 11:4): prioritizing doctrine over teachers

20 Questions with Pastor Mike (Episode 19) 01:01:01 – 01:05:02

Chip Ludick asked why Paul warned the Corinthians about "another Jesus" in 2 Corinthians 11:4 and how it applies today in light of John 17:3.

Mike's reading: Paul's concern in 2 Corinthians 10-13 is that the Corinthians have elevated apostolic personalities over the apostolic message. They were divided by teacher loyalties ("I am of Paul, I am of Apollos" — 1 Corinthians 1) and thus susceptible to following a beloved teacher into error. The corrective principle appears across Paul and Jude: the message ("the faith once for all delivered") carries more authority than any messenger — even an apostle, even Paul himself (Galatians 1:8-9). Mike applies this directly to figures like Kenneth Copeland: people's loyalty to the man leads them to accept his false theology. The remedy is sola scriptura-leaning accountability: measure every teacher against the text, be willing to reject even a favorite teacher who wanders. Mike does not see how John 17:3 ("this is eternal life, that they know you the only true God") connects to the specific question.
