Matthew 10:16-24 uses Olivet Discourse language — either Jesus repeated similar words or it shows the connection between the disciples' temporary mission and the church's ongoing mission

20 Questions with Pastor Mike (Episode 25) 00:49:58 – 00:52:32

Responding to why Matthew 10:16-24 contains Olivet Discourse wording not found in Mark 6 or Luke 9 parallels

Three positions: (1) Matthew transposed Jesus' words from one context to another (Mike Licona's view — acceptable ancient historiography); (2) that is inaccurate and would not have been done (Lydia McGrew's view); (3) Mike's preferred view: Jesus simply said something with nearly the same wording deliberately, to create a visible connection between the temporary mission of the Twelve and the ultimate ongoing mission of the church until His return. The disciples function as a microcosm of the church following Jesus in the world today.
