Praying against "spirits of laziness, offense, depression" — most are human failures not demonic spirits; Jezebel spirit is not a biblical category

20 Questions with Pastor Mike (Episode 26) 00:45:33 – 00:51:13

Q10 from Arfish: Is it biblical to pray against spirits of offense, laziness, depression, confusion? What is the Jezebel spirit and is it real?

Winger affirms that praying against spirits in general is biblical, but strongly resists the idea of specific named spirits for vices like laziness, offense, lust, malice, and bitterness. Scripture (James) says we are tempted by our own desires — Paul tells us to "put off" wrath, malice, bitterness, never to cast them out as spirits. Externalizing sin as demonic avoids personal responsibility. He distinguishes: sins (laziness, lust, offense) vs. struggles/trials (depression, confusion) — the latter are not sinful in themselves and could conceivably have demonic involvement but are different in kind. On the Jezebel spirit: the only NT reference to Jezebel is Revelation 2:20 where Jesus rebukes a woman (possibly named Jezebel, or given the title as a comparison to the OT queen) for leading people into immorality and idol sacrifice. Jesus does not invoke a "spirit of Jezebel" — he addresses behavior. Using "Jezebel spirit" against women who are merely strong-willed or argumentative is spiritual bullying with no biblical warrant.
