Politics in the pulpit — biblical worldview yes, partisan politics no
Listener Lisa asks whether politics belong in the pulpit; she is 100% against it.
Mike's nuanced view: (1) He opposes using the Bible to support a political party's agenda; (2) He supports full teaching of God's Word even when it touches political topics. Scripture commands nations (not just Israel) to defend the poor, weak, and defenseless — this includes immigrants and preborn human beings. The church cannot declare these off-limits just because politics has claimed them. On abortion: Mike says it is clearly morally wrong and the Democratic Party's identity on this is worse than the Republican position — but Republican policies are not morally good overall either. He explicitly does not want to be partisan. He is more focused on calling people to repentance than lobbying government. He acknowledges he lacks expertise on complex policy issues like healthcare. His fear: people picking a political side rather than a biblical worldview; or issues belonging to God being handed over to politics and silenced from the pulpit.
