The Kalam cosmological argument stated formally: Premise 1 — whatever begins to exist must have a cause; Premise 2 — the universe began to exist; Conclusion — the universe has a cause.
Formal presentation of the Kalam syllogism
Braxton and Mike walk through the two premises and conclusion. It's a valid syllogism (the logical form is correct). The question debated is whether it is sound (whether the premises represent truth). William Lane Craig is identified as the modern champion of the argument. Both premises get challenged, contrary to Craig's initial expectation that only Premise 2 would face contention.
