Terms like "zygote," "fetus," and "embryo" are used to dehumanize the child in the womb, just as dehumanizing labels were used in other human rights atrocities. Mike shares his college experience debating his professor on these terms.

Dehumanization through terminology

Mike's college professor in a logic class tried to argue the unborn isn't a "baby" by finding a dictionary definition of "zygote." Mike responded: the professor had taught that "language is a system of shared conventions" — renaming a human doesn't change what it is. A rose by any other name. The miscarriage test: nobody tells a friend who miscarried "don't worry, it was just a zygote."
