Internal contradiction between egalitarian camps: cultural restrictions vs. status-in-Christ arguments
Mike identifies a tension within egalitarianism.
Some egalitarians say any gender-based restrictions violate status in Christ (the Galatians 3:28 silver bullet). Others say the restrictions in passages like 1 Timothy 2 were just cultural — they applied in Paul's day but not today. But these two positions conflict: Paul would never allow cultural considerations to strip someone's status in Christ. If restrictions violate Christ-status, they cannot simultaneously be culturally acceptable for Paul.
