Four common confusions about love that corrupt Christian morality: (1) "love is love" — but loving God comes first; (2) love is not approval of life choices; (3) love is not about sex/romance; (4) love never justifies sin or competes with holiness.
Correcting modern misunderstandings of love
Four errors: (1) "Love is love" is meaningless — loving God first means you can't approve any behavior associated with love feelings. (2) Love ≠ approval/support for life choices — God loves the world but doesn't approve of the world. You can love someone and hate what they're doing. "Your best friends are the ones willing to tell you you're making mistakes." (3) Love ≠ sex/romance — majority of love expressions are brotherly, parental, friendship. Young people confuse this and project romance onto their relationship with Jesus. (4) Love never justifies sin — "if we love each other we can sleep together" is NOT love. Love and holiness never compete. Practical: Winger doesn't engage in private messaging with women; reads any questionable messages to his wife.
