Mike argues that egalitarian scholars engage in selective usage of historical quotes rather than careful, proper usage. They echo claims from Bedale's short article to each other. While Aristotle did believe the heart was the seat of control (as Payne claims), this was not the common view. Hippocrates, Philo, Rufus of Ephesus, and Galen all taught the opposite, and Galen explicitly says most people thought the head controlled the body.
