Cervin uses only author-specific lexicons (Plato, Thucydides) from much earlier periods of Greek — not Koine Greek

Male Headship: Is it REALLY Biblical? Women in Ministry part 8 01:16:56 – 01:18:27

Mike critiques Cervin's substitution of classical Greek lexicons for NT lexicons.

Having rejected all NT lexicons, Cervin relies on lexicons for specific classical authors (Plato, Thucydides, etc.). These authors wrote in a different period of Greek (classical, not Koine). His sources are mostly from periods well before the NT — the closest is Diodorus (1st century BC). He has nothing from writers contemporary with Paul, like Philo. Greek changed over time; Koine Greek is not classical Greek. Wayne Grudem rightly asks why a lexicon on Plato or Thucydides should be given more credence than a specialty NT lexicon.
